Legalizing marijuana I feel is extremely relevant for us today, and cannot keep being ignored as an issue of our government. I am not expecting it to be legalized within then next year. Hopefully our government will realize the countless benefits of doing so, and finally make one thing wrong with our country right. I want everybody to be aware of the situation. Think about the rights that you enjoy daily, whether or not they are healthy for you, bad for you, or if they don’t really affect you so much, the bottom line is that they are your rights. You get to choose what you want to do with your life, and unless you are obviously putting somebody in danger, you should have the right to do as you please, being a citizen of this country. I don’t expect you all to smoke pot, or support pot smokers, or even condone what they do. I would just like you all to think about a valid reason for marijuana being illegal. Think about why you are able to drink a beer at the bar, but not smoke a blunt even in the privacy of your own house.
I would also like everybody to sit and think about what other rights you feel you deserve but do not have. Is there anything else that you wish you could do, but can’t because of the law? Anything harmless that you might enjoy doing like having a fire, or blowing up fireworks? We need open our eyes and ask why things are they way they are, maybe that would be the first step for some positive change.
It may never become become "legal" in a certain sense. I think it will be more tolerated. It will be interesting to see what they do will all the people in prison for drug sales if they do legalize.
ReplyDeleteI agree. This is a very interesting topic and the outcome that is in the future would be one that I am curious to know what it is. I like the paper topic, and your argument is sound and the purpose is present.
ReplyDeleteGood topic! Throughout ancient and modern politics the struggle between freedom and order has fluctuated to suit the most current generation. If ours is leaning towards desiring the freedom to do what we want over government regulation in the name of 'order' then why the heck not legalize it? The real voting block here is the elderly and conservatives.
ReplyDeleteThe government could tax it if they made it legal and then make money from it and get us out of debt!
ReplyDeleteI think weed should be treated like alcohol; give it an age at which people can legally smoke it, and give dui's when people are driving high. Weed is not bad for people, and is becoming a large part of our generation's cultural identity. Legalize it.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very interesting and relevant topic to college students today. I feel that it would not be horrible to legalize it because it is everyone's decisions as to whether they do the things they do. I mean I do not see how drinking and smoking pot are that different. They both affect the way your brain functions.
ReplyDeletei feel like it should be legal too. ultimately, people are going to do it and if it's not harming anyone else, it should be legal. personally i don't smoke, but i have enough respect for human nature to know that the government shouldn't control our lives
ReplyDeleteI find thid topic interesting. The only real reason anyone seems to have for pot being illegal is because "it is bad for you." I know this is true but what about cigarettes or beer? Those are bad for you too. I think that pot will eventually be legalized but only to certain people. I believe it will become a part of smoking and the government will establish an age in which you can buy it.
ReplyDeleteWow, I am pleased to see that many of you agree with me. If any of you know any other benefits of legalizing pot, or positive effects that could result from it I would love to hear them!
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree that marijuana should be legal just as alcohol (a more potent drug with worse side effects) is. According to the British medical journal The Lancet, marijuana is less addictive and less harmful than alcohol. I think on that basis alone it should be legalized.
